New AP STEM courses hitting Hillsborough high schools next Fall

Tampa, Florida-- Hillsborough County students can look forward to a wider selection of Advanced Placement courses at 11 high schools this coming fall.

According to Hillsborough Public Schools reps, the schools were selected to participate in the College Board's new AP STEM Access Porgram, designed to increase the number of female and minority students who enroll in the courses nationwide.

Hillsborough, Florida -- Hillsborough County Extension Service, in association with with the University of Florida Extension and Okaloosa, Duval and Lake County Extension offices, is offering free live interactive online classes on financial management.

"Heart of a Champion" scholarship to help 66 Hillsborough seniors

Hillsborough County, Florida-- An upcoming, exciting event will honor some of Hillsborough County's high school senior athletes, and award them with scholarships for displaying hard work, determination and true spirit.

The "Heart of a Champion" scholarship will go to one male, and one female student athlete from 33 Hillsborough County schools who have demonstrated what “heart” is all about, event organizers explained Wednesday.

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Enroll kids in the Summer VPK Program.

The Summer VPK Program is a free, voluntary, 300 insturctional-hour program designed to prepare Florida's 4-year-olds for successful entry into kindergarten.

In Hillsborough County, the 2013 Summer VPK Program is delivered at certain public elementary schools and by a select number of approved, private child care providers. A list of schools and private providers can be found here.

Hillsborough County, Florida-- In honor of Earth Day, the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority says high school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply for an upcoming summit in Washignton D.C., where they'll have a chance to learn all about how eco-friendly public transportation can be.

Can you play Kickball? Play for a good cause!

Tampa, Florida -- Alpha Omicron Pi is looking for kickball teams for its 5th Annual Kickin' It For A Cure.

100% of proceeds go toward the Arthritis Foundation. The event is April 6, from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the USF IM softball fields.

If your department, student org or group of friends is interested, you only need a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 team members -- there are female, male and co-ed divisions. Team entrance fee is $100.
